Al Rubeling Celebrates 40 Years

A hearty congratulations to Al Rubeling on his 40 years of dedicated service to Rubeling and JMT! After Al graduated from the University of Maryland School of Architecture in 1977, he was licensed in 1980, and at that time, was the youngest registered architect in the state of MD. Al quickly formed his own architectural firm in 1981. Along with growing his firm regionally and merging with JMT in 2014, Al has had many notable achievements over the past 40 years. He was appointed to two terms of the Maryland State Board of Architects and the Baltimore County Architectural Review Board and served as past president of the Essex Community College Foundation, member of the Baltimore Foundation of Architecture, and president of the Baltimore and Maryland Chapters of the American Institute of Architects. He has also served on the AIA National Board of Directors and the National AIA Trust, and, in 2007, received The Leslie N. Boney Spirit of Fellowship Award.  In 1993, the AIA elevated him to the College of Fellows, making him the youngest AIA Fellow in the nation at that time. He went on to serve as Chancellor in 2015. Along the way, Al also served as a professor for the University of Maryland School of Architecture, as well as writing a book, entitled, “How to Start and Operate Your Own Design Firm,” first published in 1994.
