JMT Architecture Projects Usher in the 2019-2020 School Year
The start of the school year is always an exciting time for us, but especially this year as three K-12 projects – at Mercy High School, The Country School, and Patapsco High School – were completed ahead of students and faculty returning to campus. Earlier this month we had the opportunity to attend dedication events and ribbon cutting ceremonies for two of the projects:
The Sisters of Mercy Athletic Complex at Mercy High School in Baltimore, Maryland
The new facility kicked off the fall season with a soccer game on Friday, September 6. JMT Architecture designed the new $4.3 million facility, which includes playing fields, stadium seating for 2,000-plus attendees, a gathering plaza with donor recognition wall and statue surround, a video scoreboard, and other amenities.
The new facility was featured in Maryland’s Daily Record, The Baltimore Sun and the Baltimore Business Journal, alongside our ongoing project at Loyola Blakefield.
Upper School Addition to The Country School in Easton, Maryland
The Country School celebrated the completion of their new Upper School addition and the start of the new school year earlier this month. JMT provided architectural and interior design services for the Upper School addition and renovations to the current Lower School building. Willow Construction was the contractor on the project. We featured the project, when construction began, a little less than a year ago.
The Country School marked their 85th first day of school with a ribbon cutting ceremony under the new iconic Handshake Tower on September 9. We were happy to be in attendance and see students and staff alike enjoying their new space.
The local Star Democrat covered the ribbon cutting ceremony with a great feature article that quoted Headmaster Neil Mufson’s during the ceremony: “If you are here today it’s because you have helped make this project happen. You have either helped create the vision with your ideas, made the vision possible by your generosity, or done the hard work to transform the vision into reality.”
Patapsco High School and Performing Arts Center in Dundalk, Maryland
While not met with an official ceremony, Tuesday, September 3, marked the start of the school year for Patapsco High School students. The students are enjoying newly renovated spaces and modernized HVAC system this year, with the completion of phase 10 of the school’s 10 phase renovation project. JMT Architecture provided architectural design, interior design, and project management services on this project, which involved classroom, library, cafeteria, locker room, theater, and auditorium improvements.
This project also gained some local news attention, with coverage from WBAL in July.
